Obama, the new Apple

Though he may not yet be president, when it comes to branding, Obama is clearly the King.

No matter where I was this weekend, walking my dogs, riding the metro, enjoying Unity Reggae Band in downtown Silver Spring, Obama was everywhere. His face, his name, his sweet logo (see above) can be found on shirts, lawn signs, business windows and tattoos. It actually got to the point to where I found myself thinking I needed to buy a shirt, just so I wouldn't be left behind... I'm normally the early adopter!

He says he represents change. Yeah, I can see that. I also see youth, vitality, and a patriotism that I can't even see McCain matching (all due respect, I assure you). I mean, the guy shoots 3-pointers on command for US Troops.

All this, at a time when poor McCain was busted trying to pass off a more youthful look.

But, is it becoming too much? Remember, they aren't just selling t-shirts here. There's an election at stake. Didn't we vote for Bush because he seemed like the "normal guy", where Al Gore was the arrogant know-it-all? And we voted for him again, because... well, I don't have any idea. The cliche is you vote for the guy you'd want to share a beer with. The guy that is "like us".

Is Obama one of us? Sure, he's diverse like we are. He isn't a war hero. He isn't an economic genius... but, can we still love Obama the superstar?

Won't we soon realize that we are nothing like Obama? Sure, I've hit a 3 pointer before, but I've never imagined writing 2 absolutely awe inspriring, best-selling novels. I definitely didn't gradguate from Harvard Law. And you know what, no way could I, nor any of you, give that speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2004 that changed the world.

Agree with him or not, you must agree that the man is amazing. I'm eager to see how he continues to hide it.
